The first stage involved roughing in the new electrical installation, which progressed as expected. However, while disconnecting and rewiring the kitchen during the second stage of the renovation, significant problems were identified within the existing electrical system.

Further investigation found an incorrect earthing arrangement involving two main earth stakes, along with the main active and neutral conductors being incorrectly connected at the main switchboard. Correcting electrical faults during the renovation

The main active and neutral conductors were corrected at the switchboard to restore the proper polarity of the installation. The additional earth stake was removed, and an MEN link was installed to suit the property’s electrical supply arrangement, which was fed through a sub-board from the farm’s main switchboard.

Once the repairs and switchboard work were completed, the electrical installation was thoroughly tested before the power supply was restored. Standard electrical testing confirmed that the corrected installation was properly connected and operating safely.

The homeowners were then informed about the faults that had been discovered, the risks involved and the repairs completed as part of the renovation.
