Outside lighting in Breamlea

Sacred Electrical completed an outside lighting project in Breamlea after a homeowner reported a lighting circuit repeatedly tripping the RCD at the main switchboard. The job involved fault finding, repairs and maintenance, and the replacement of weather-damaged exterior lights. With the property located close to the coast, salt air and exposure to the elements had contributed to corrosion and deterioration across several outdoor fittings.

Diagnosing an outside lighting fault in Breamlea

The first priority was to identify what was causing the lighting circuit to trip. A systematic testing process traced the fault to a damaged cable running from a switch inside the house to an outside sensor light.

The damaged cable had created a short to earth, which caused the RCD to operate as designed and disconnect the circuit. Further inspection also found three outside flood lights that were no longer working properly because of weather-related deterioration.

Coastal properties in areas such as Breamlea can be particularly demanding on exterior electrical fittings. Salt, moisture and constant exposure to changing weather conditions can shorten the life of unsuitable products and increase the likelihood of faults over time.

Replacing damaged outdoor lights

Because the damaged cable to the original sensor light was difficult to access, repairing it in its existing location was not the most practical solution. Instead, Sacred Electrical installed a new outside sensor light in a more suitable position on the bungalow.

The new location provided the lighting needed for the walkway while avoiding unnecessary work to access the damaged cable.

Three deteriorated flood lights were also removed and replaced with new IP65 LED flood lights. These fittings provide a higher level of protection from dust and water ingress and were better suited to the exposed conditions at the property.

The completed works included:

  • Outside lighting fault finding and diagnosis
  • Repairs and maintenance to the lighting system
  • Installation of a new outside sensor light
  • Replacement of three exterior flood lights
  • Installation of IP65 LED lighting suited to outdoor conditions
  • Lighting solutions for coastal properties

This Breamlea project highlights the importance of choosing outside lighting that suits the environment in which it will be installed. Coastal conditions can accelerate corrosion and contribute to electrical faults, especially where older or unsuitable fittings are exposed to salt air and moisture.

If your outside lights are no longer working, your lighting circuit is tripping, or you are considering upgrading exterior or sensor lighting, Sacred Electrical can assess the problem and recommend a practical solution.
